Rationale:

Entrepreneurship is the process of exploring the opportunities in the market place and arranging resources required to exploit these opportunities for long term gain.  It is the process of planning, organizing, opportunities and assuming. Thus it is a risk of business enterprise. It may be distinguished as an ability to take risk independently to make utmost earnings in the market. It is a creative and innovative skill and adapting response to environment.

Entrepreneurship is the quality and skill required to become an entrepreneur. It refers to the capacity required for identifying and generating innovative business ideas, mobilizing resources, organizing production and marketing the products, managing the risks and constantly working for growth and excellence of one’s business enterprise which is the key purpose of this course to safety and health students.

Learning Outcomes:

·         Discuss the key issues entrepreneurs should consider when setting up business ownership;

·         Describe five different forms of business entities;

·         Identify the historical development and the benefits and disadvantages of joining franchise business.

·         Develop business ideas and implement them.

Modified lectures, group and individual assignments and presentations, practicals and case studies.  

Assessment:

Continuous assignments/practicals [40%], and final examination [60%].

·         Introduction to Entrepreneurship; Definition, Concept and  Importance of Entrepreneurship, Categories/types and Qualities of Entrepreneurs,  Beliefs, myths, values of Entrepreneurship

·         Business idea: - identification of business, nature of products/ services and customers and the needs to be satisfied.

·         Feasibility Study ; Definition, Components of a feasibility study, conducting a Feasibility Study,  SWOT Analysis

·         The Business Plan; Meaning & importance of a business plan, Structure & contents of business plan,

·         Marketing plan and research; Introduction of marketing concept, the 4p’s of marketing.

·         Forms of Business; Sole proprietorship, Partnerships, Limited company, Co-operatives,
