Every job or task has specific procedures and processes designed for it to be accomplished safely and easily. This course will assist students in developing and implementing the “Safe ways of accomplishing risky tasks”Safe work procedures make workers aware of risks in their work tasks and tell them how to avoid injury or illness while doing those tasks. Safe Work Practices (SWP), are a set of guidelines or "Do’s and Don’ts” on how to perform a specific task that may not always be done in the same way and should be developed to mitigate hazards that have been identified through the hazard identification process

Learning Outcomes:

·         Know, understand and follow all of the Safe Work Practices that pertain to his/her specific tasks.

·         Explain and discuss the basic safety and emergency procedures to maintain a safe workplace for staff, customers and others

·         Recommend and Guide personnel in the implementation of safe work practices

Duration:

3 weeks

Teaching Methods:

Modified lecture, individual & group assignments and presentations, videos, case studies, field trips and Problem based learning.

 

Assessment:

Continuous assignments/practicals [40%], and final examination [60%].
